How to handle international scam calls.
It seems unknown call scams from different countries are still going on WhatsApp.
I got a few calls on one of my numbers, and some people I know are also receiving them.
A few months back, many people complained on Twitter about receiving unknown calls from international numbers starting at +84, +62, +60, and more.
Following this, WhatsApp also issued a statement.
Here is everything you need to know and what you can do if you are still receiving random calls from international numbers.
WhatsApp users are getting random calls from countries such as Malaysia, Kenya, Vietnam, and Ethiopia, as indicated by the I.S.D. codes.
The reason behind these calls remains unclear at the moment.
There are concerns that these calls might be attempts to deceive users for financial gain.
Individuals report receiving either 2 or 4 calls on alternate days.
Notably, those who have recently acquired a new SIM card are receiving more calls from international numbers.
WhatsApp previously advised people to report and block such calls simply.
“Blocking and reporting suspicious messages/ calls is an important step to combat scams effectively and when users receive calls from unknown international or domestic phone numbers,” WhatsApp said.
“We have consistently invested in Artificial Intelligence and other state-of-the-art technology to keep our users safe on our platform.
Our monthly user safety report, which we publish in accordance with the I.T. Rules 2021, contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp to combat abuse on our platform.
WhatsApp banned over 4.7 million accounts in the month of March alone,” the company added.
