Government fast-tracked strategies planning to woo Foreign Investments – Here’s what acceptable and what’s not

Many of you might think that the laws for clearance of companies of such hazardous industries should be made more stringent but notification of EIA Draft 2020 proposes to do exactly the opposite. If the changes are made to current EIA rules and the new ones are introduced which are mulled in the draft, it will be a great disaster. While the proposed amendments to EIA will attract more investments, common people’s lives, livelihood and environment will be at stake.

According to reports, the government wants to attract foreign investments in ten sectors which include chemical and textile industry, heavy engineering, solar equipment, electrical, food processing, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. Once changes to EIA are made according to the proposed draft of 2020, many of the companies in these industries will find it easy to invest as they will then get absolved from their environmental accountability.
