Turkish President Erdogan Supports India’s UNSC Bid
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed his support for India’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Erdogan made the announcement during a press conference on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Delhi. He said that India is a “great country” with a “significant role to play” in the world, and that it deserves a permanent seat on the UNSC.
“A country like India being there on the UN Security Council, we would be proud,” Erdogan said. “But as you know, the world is bigger than… larger than five.”
The UNSC currently has five permanent members: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
These countries have veto power over any UNSC resolutions.
India has been a vocal supporter of UN reform, including expanding the UNSC and giving more countries permanent seats. In 2015, India submitted a formal proposal to the UN for a permanent seat on the UNSC.
Erdogan’s announcement is a significant boost for India’s UNSC bid.
Turkey is a respected member of the UN and its support could help India to gain the support of other countries.
The UNSC is the most powerful body in the UN. It is responsible for maintaining international peace and security, and it has the power to authorize military action.
A permanent seat on the UNSC would give India a major voice in global affairs.
India’s UNSC bid is likely to face stiff opposition from some countries, including China and Russia. However, Erdogan’s announcement is a sign that India’s bid is gaining momentum.
