Quarantine brings an increase in Domestic Violence
The National Commission for Women has also given similar statistics. Reports show there has been a spike in the number of cases of domestic violence against women during the lockdown period. However, the rural administration of Pune brings some relief. They said that the abuser will be sent to institutional quarantine.
Not only this, Ayush Prasad, the CEO of Pune Zila Parishad also said that women from self-care groups and members of the Panchayat will be going to houses and meet people in this regard. They will also be providing women with personal hygiene products like sanitary napkins, etc.
Ana Bella, a survivor of domestic violence and founder of a foundation to help women said, “We’ve been getting some very distressing calls, showing us clearly just how intense psychological, as well as physical mistreatment, can get when people are kept 24 hours a day together within a reduced space”.
