Mumbai bridge: Rs 247 cr project shows signs of shoddy construction
A newly built bridge in Mumbai has developed potholes after just four days of rain. The Rs 247-crore bridge, built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is now posing a danger to motorists and particularly two-wheeler riders.
Commuters say that the potholes are particularly dangerous during rainfall when they are invisible due to accumulated water. They allege that the material used to build the tar road was of inferior quality, which could not withstand just a few days of rain.
RTI activist Anil Galgali has demanded that the contractor be blacklisted and the NHAI employees who were in charge of the bridge’s construction be taken action against.
NHAI project director Suhas Chitnis has said that the potholes have developed due to heavy rain and that they are being repaired. He has also said that the bridge will be repaired completely once the rain stops.
Police Inspector Devidas Handore of Kashimira Traffic Division has said that they will take photos of the potholes and send them to the NHAI for action. He has also said that they will repair the potholes as soon as possible so as to avoid any unwanted incidents.
