INTERVIEW WITH GROWING INDIAN YOUTUBERS PART 2

ShyGirlSpeaks SHY GIRL SPEAKS is a channel run by 17-year-old Poorvee. She is a girl who likes to express herself and her channel represents who she is and as the name suggests it talks about the struggles of shy people. 1. Tell us something about you and your channel like when you started it? How this idea came into your mind? What is the reason behind choosing a platform like youtube where you are open to millions of people? I always wanted to start a channel because I had a few thoughts which I did not want to express in writing. Usually, I write as well but there were somethings that I wanted to speak up about. Through this I just wanted people to relate to and I just took topics from my own experiences something which I experience daily and I used to prepare talk from that. My channel as the name says shy girl speaks it's about how shy people see the world and not dominantly shy people but I like to talk about the other side like people just like to draw conclusions about shy people and everything but I didn't want that to happen and someone needs to speak up so I thought why not me hence I made up this channel. 2. Any inspiration behind it and favourite YouTuber and why? I didn't have like any of much of inspiration from a particular YouTuber. My favourite YouTuber is Shane Dawson because he has this dark sense of humour which actually helps me to overcome a lot of things like he used his own bullying experiences and made jokes out of them. I think that was a very good way to deal with my experiences like it help me to not look at my problems in a serious angle and not victimize myself further and he did help me to evolve into a better person and now I am able to talk about my problems really easily. So I think Shane Dawson is the best inspiration that I have ever got. 3. How do you feel after starting a YouTube channel and how much has your life changed? Starting YouTube hasn't changed my life that much but I just know that some people they come up to me and they tell me like your talks are really nice like they are relate-able and fun. And like that's all that I need even if my inner circle watches those videos and they tell me like how they felt about it how they felt about my thoughts when they give me their opinions that's something that makes me feel happy. To conclude youtube has not brought any much of a change in my life. 4. How do you deal with fans and how does it make you feel and also how do you deal with haters or your own friends who make fun of you? So I actually thankfully got a lot of admiration more than hate and as far as hate is concerned people often say that I am not very fluent in some videos like we do have videos which are not like our best efforts. I do agree with it and I do get a hate on them a bit but then I just try to ignore it and I try to make better videos because it's my channel and I want to express myself and nobody can stop me from uploading literally in the literal sense. So I don't think so that I have gotten so much of hate on my channel even if sometimes I got it I just ignored it and tried my best to be better. I do also get some feedback in which people criticize a lot in which there is a lot of Criticism about me the good thing with criticism is that I try to pick up a point from that criticism and learn. I have got a lot of admiration till now not been through a huge amount of hate or criticism 5. So your channel is a one to one interaction channel Why this? Why not something else makeup beauty channel or anything? First of all, for a beauty channel, I need to know how to do a tutorial on how to do makeup properly in front of the camera and I firmly believe that I can't do that. When it comes to vlogging if you are doing vlogging then you need to explore and be adventurous and I don't think that I am necessarily that adventurous. I think it's fine and that's why I just preferred one to one interaction type of a thing like we need someone sometimes you just Pep talk us and I would really love to not sounding to as if I am bragging about myself but I would love to watch a channel like mine who talks about issues. Hence I thought of making it the main thing in my channel 6. Tell us about your first video experience like what was the struggle? I think my first video was "things you should know about a shy person" and I guess I thought of it very randomly. I was already dressed up. So I put on the tripod that I recently got and I shot the video on my mobile as I do for my other videos. I didn't focus on the professional aspects that time I just cared about my content and what I am presenting. I just wanted people to relate to me. Even if they don't watch it and just listen; I just want them to understand what I'm trying to say. 7. Define your channel in two words The two words would be I guess profound and inspired 8. Being a part of social media how do you think the youth gets affected by it? I think I personally know a lot of people who spend a lot of time on social media and they get new ideas through it. According to me, social media is a really influential platform like you never know what might influence you in which way. Like what some views can do like what a viral video can do by creating some weird myths like we have seen it sometimes. Although It's an easy platform to make the youth feel inspired and informed. But then there is also wrong information going around which somehow has a Bad Influence on the youth and so social media can be good or bad it depends on the content And The authenticity of what you are watching. 9.Do you think youth gets overindulged in social media and tends to forget their public and personal life? I think this question is totally for me because Half of My life is on social media. I seriously don't have lived out of it I want to be able to stay away from reading something online or making friends online maybe if I am or somewhere outside with my friends in college, if I am busy I won't think about it but when I am alone I would love to stay online all the time. And I think yeah this question is totally true no matter how much people deny it. Like yes people do forget their personal life and they do become psychologically and socially dependent on social media but social media can also be a very good confidence factor too. 10.How YouTube is a platform for the youth, do you feel that it's sometimes misleading for the youth as they think of it as their passion and forget everything else which ultimately causes their downfall? I want to say downfall because as far as I have seen and as far as I have met a few people they always seem very inspired by YouTube. People do talk about their life experiences and they love to hear about it and I don't think it's a downfall in any way and it depends on how the person takes the videos like there is a need of a line between reality and what is being shown to us. So if a person is realistic enough and grounded enough then I don't think that YouTube will be much of a Bad Influence. I have known many people who have like great social lives and they also know what to do and what not to do. 11. Being a growing YouTuber what advice would you like to give people out there and how do you see YouTube in India in the upcoming year? I don't have any particular advice. Me myself I don't think that I am anyway popular or anything but I do think that if you make a channel then make it genuine make it original just don't copy those comedy skits everyone makes and if you are actually into comedy then that's fine and great. YouTube in India I think it's amazing and its growing really well and many people are coming to the platform and expressing themselves. I watch this channel Indian channel personally that I like its called the Rajat code and he basically makes really nice videos about real life incidents and that's really nice. So basically in India YouTube is emerging you-tubers are emerging so it's really great and upcoming years I feel that YouTube will grow a lot further in India. 12. How did your parents react to your idea of going on YouTube and wherein future do you see yourself with this? My parents were just like do whatever you want to do. I was a feeling like Simran from DDLJ it was as if like "Ja beta Ja Jee le Apni Zindagi". They told me that it could be kind of dangerous like because you are putting yourself out somewhere where other people can see you so you should be careful on what you do they were a bit cautious but then I just told them that I wanted to do it and I was sure and I made my first video. Slowly my videos started evolving today they say that I had this thing of "talking". So, in the end, they are happy about it and about my growth. I don't know how much will I grow. Frankly speaking, I don't want to think about the numbers I would rather love to impact 10 people then rather just having 10 hundred 10000 followers or something namesake. 13. Are you ever nervous about posting videos? Do you feel like you have a certain standard to uphold? Does that hinder or help you as a creator? First of all whenever I make a video it takes so many takes as in shots and re-shots. I either mess up the script or forget something it just happens a lot. It gets annoying in the end and as I keep on making more videos weirdly the nervousness fades away and I finally make a video in the end when I finally complete it, I'm happy about it. I post it and by then I am too tired to be nervous so I don't think that it hinders me as a creator it makes me think about my content. I do think that when you are actually nervous about something it shows that you care about it and you are serious about it so its fine I guess. 14. You talk about topics that are quite shy for people, how do you think you get the courage for speaking up to such a huge mass? I think it's just like whatever I feel from the heart I just like to say it because what is the worst that can happen they can't come and stop me from uploading. So it's just a communication that I am trying to put outside and if you are ready to receive it then it's great otherwise just ignore it and move on that's what I believe in and I think my topics do talk about issues which nobody want to actually deal with anger issues that people want to move on. I guess people just say move on but it is very necessary to solve a problem before moving on. and I just hate it when people just say that just relax and nothing is gonna go wrong stop overthinking but I guess you were thinking is there in me it's a part of me and I would rather try to find a solution then moving on if someone is actually willing to find a solution they may find my videos helpful and that's what. I believe that there is somebody out there always looks up to you. 15. You also make English song covers. So what according to you is the scope of English music YouTubers in the country? I think you-tubers like Vidya vox she makes fusion videos with Bollywood songs and Hollywood songs. I really like this kind music and I think they are just trying to intricate both of the cultures into one music bit and it's really amazing to see that. There are many great amazing talented singers out there on YouTube and my covers are just experimental and I personally believe that English covers or English music in India will grow a lot. So that what I believe is the scope of international music in the country 16. Finally one video of yours that you are most proud of? The video that I am most proud of is a part of my trio talk video. I was doing this three days talk about three different topics and the first video I made was about bullying. Me myself I relate to that video a lot because I personally went through like 7 years of bullying. Hence I made that video because I just wanted to put it out there that if someone is bullying you then what should you do according to my experience I found one solution and I just wanted to share it out there. Personally, I think I like that video if I was in some kind of trouble then I would definitely use the solution which I offered in the video. Their channel has around 210 subscribers and it is on its verge of evolving. A member of the team Rishabh Paroha answered my questions. 1.Tell us something about you and your channel like when you started it? How this idea came into your mind? What is the reason behind choosing a platform like YouTube where you are open to millions of people?. We were a team of engineering students who were living in a hostel. As we all see day to day thousands of memes are posted on Internet about engineering students and their life so we just wanted to show a glimpse of our hostel life like the actual hostel life of an engineering student through a YouTube channel also another benefit of opening a YouTube channel was that eventually, you start getting famous 2. Any inspiration behind it and favourite YouTuber and why? For me, the inspiration behind my YouTube Channel was solely my friends. Although I do like watching carryminati and Harsh Beniwal they are my favourite YouTubers 3. How do you feel after starting a YouTube channel and how much has your life changed? My life hasn't changed much actually all of us are still same college going students we are still on the same platform so I don't think anyone in our life has changed to a larger extent 4. How do you deal with fans and how does it make you feel and also how do you deal with haters or your own friends who make fun of you? All the fans and haters all are our own friends but still, we can say that at least we tried and we still got some popularity so hate doesn't matter that much. 5. So your channel is a comedy sketch channel Why this? Why not something else like vlogging or tech or anything? As we wanted to show the people the life of engineering students particularly in their hostels. Showing it in a funny way makes it more interesting and spreadable so we thought to make a comedy sketch channel rather than vlogging or anything else sort of channel 6. Tell us about your first video experience like what was the struggle? Talking about a first video most of us had different ideas about showing a particular scene due to which we had few conflicts over these ideas Although we didn't have good quality microphone and camera still we tried our best to put a good video out there on YouTube 7. Define your channel in two words I guess the two words will be Shandar and Zabardast and zindabad 8. Being a part of social media how do you think the youth gets affected by it? Social media has some serious effect on youth like us it's an undeniable truth. 9.Do you think youth gets over indulged in social media and tends to forget their public and personal life? This type of cases are very often these days because most of us are residing alone away from her parents due to the studies or work so all we have is social media to divert our mind and keep ourselves busy. So yeah I guess sometimes youth to gets overindulged in social media and tends to forget their public and personal life. 10.How YouTube is a platform for the youth, do you feel that it's sometimes misleading for the youth as they think of it as their passion and forget everything else which ultimately causes their downfall? forgetting everything else because of YouTube may lead to some bad consequences because any work needs an effort. So if you put forward an effort towards your passion then only it works or else you'll fail miserably 11. Being a growing YouTuber what advice would you like to give people out there and how do you see YouTube in India in the upcoming year? Being a growing YouTuber you should always remain confident in each and every video irrespective of its performance. And about YouTube in India in the upcoming years it will be the easiest and quickest way to spread your talent and start of your career as a YouTuber 12. How do these skits come to your mind? I mean most of them indulge your college friends and are about college life. So are they a replica of your own college life? As living in a hostel it has a huge impact on one's life. By observing the nature and activities of various students this way we grab our ideas and then we prepare a proper content and then we put our efforts in making the video. So yes one could say that our skits are a replica of our own college life. 13. How did your parents react to your idea of going on YouTube and wherein future do you see yourself with this? I think none of us told our parents about this 14. Are you ever nervous about posting videos? Do you feel like you have a certain standard to uphold? Does that hinder or help you as a creator? We never felt nervous before posting a video because we knew that our target audience are our College mates only. So the thing about standard never came in to picture hence our nervousness has never hindered us as a creator. 15. Finally one video of yours that you are most proud of? I guess that one video will be exam preparations one which is a comedy sketch in which we show that how students plan for the exams one day before the exam.It's quite relate-able and it's very fun to watch and context in that is very genuine and it can be related by any student out there that's why we think that it is the video that we are most proud of.
