A Salesforce report published that Indian office workers, especially IT employees, waste more than 53 minutes daily. The main reason is the poor infrastructure of IT companies. The study was held across the country by You Gov Galaxy. Finally, the data were compared with statistics of IT workers across the world.
“Further, 85 per cent said that they feel unhappy and unmotivated when struggling with outdated and inefficient technology, with 82 per cent admitting that this affects the quality of their work.”
In the current scenarios, IT employees are scattered due to the coronavirus pandemic. Indian IT has a solution and offers work from home or deferred joining after the lockdown eases further. Also, it is notable that many employees are working from home right now. It only means limited resources. These limited resources include poor network connectivity and limited server access. In simple terms, all the modern yet outdated hardware and software they had access to at the workplace is not available at home. At least, some of it is accessible to these employees. Many Indian IT companies ensure the delivery of workstations to their employee’s homes wherever possible. However, some devices and tools can’t be distributed globally and require appropriate tools to work usually.
What needs improvement in the Indian IT sector?
It is no lie that the IT industry is still booming in India. There are missing opportunities for fixes here and there. Small improvements that the IT companies have started looking into include fixing the support environment. Workplace technology can be held equally responsible. The software and peripherals deployed by the IT staff are not up to the mark. They end up waiting for almost an hour every day in bits and pieces.

For the IT industries, time is money. Every minute wasted is a loss for the companies. These wasted minutes aren’t trivial. However, when summed up for a day, these are significant numbers.
Many critiques say that the IT sector is also overburdening the typical employee until exhaustion. The norm and the culture of a multinational corporation compensate merely. The joyride of regular life is missing, and the employees are losing or underperforming in their work life. Employees, most of the junior titles, are demanding more resources because the Millennial and Gen Z are vocal about their needs and demands. The IT companies focus on hiring and retaining fresh talent, including millennials and gen Z. It would be interesting to know if they want to choose a life where their demands are met, but slowly.
What Indian IT leaders and IT offices are doing now?
The survey also highlights various IT leaders and senior executives. They all had diverse opinions on improvements, but one thing was common.
“76 per cent of Indian IT leaders “strongly agree” that their business’ technology maximizes employee engagement, 61 per cent office workers said that the top issue that negatively affects their meeting at work is when technology fails or doesn’t work as it should.”
The IT job force workers wanted a more rich working experience in total. Their demands are simple yet not so complicated. Improved apps, better peripherals, and access keys were the ordinary demands of the typical Indian IT employee. What the future holds for these companies and the employees is ambiguous right now, but promising for sure.
The Indian IT industry is struggling right now. It had to dismiss many employees. But IT employees dismissed are less than the IT employees retaining their jobs. It is mainly a significant relief to those IT job goers that were once afraid to raise their voice for their needs. Every second is precious for these employees and the company in total.
Time is a currency that can’t be traded but only valued on a weight scale for monetary benefits.
These IT employees might be struggling to keep up with the pace of work. The Indian IT companies are ensuring to upgrade their systems and make available the latest technology to their workforce. It will not only mean progress for the IT giants but the Indian economy all in all.
