“Sexism”- Of the society…For the society…By the society

SEXISM — The way of discriminating and judging anyone’s ability on the basis of their gender.

WE cannot deny the fact that we are a part of a patriarchal and chauvinist society. We live in it and we go through it every day.

It is a lot of times pretty hash to the female species. That’s kind of obvious because after all that’s what’s patriarchy and chauvinism is all about.

In every step of their life women have to go through a lot of things. It all begins with the birth of a girl child. It’s funny how everyone WANTS A MOTHER, A WIFE, A GIRLFRIEND but NOT quite everyone wants A GIRL CHILD. Absurd isn’t it?.

Not everyone has a happy face when they get the deadly news “Mubarak ho ladki hui hain” and that’s the quite point from where the hardships of a girl’s life begin.

From the childhood girls are taught to behave in a decent calm manner, we are always advised to be loving, caring, sensitive, tolerant Etc.

To sum up, in the path of growing up we are trained to be the ones who can shower unconditional love, who can tolerate things, who can tolerate the pain, the suffering.

We are trained to be the stereotypical “DECENT WOMAN” of the society because according to our society all the love, caring, tolerance, quietness, shyness are the business matters of a woman and these are the only things that should matter in a DECENT WOMAN’S life.

Her choice her voice is actually not the things that she should be concerned about. According to our society Independence, Freedom, Boldness, Choice and Inner Voice doesn’t help you to get a good husband and getting a good husband is the most important task of a DECENT WOMAN’S life. Because again according to the norms of our dearest society a woman cannot have a good future without a husband and my friends that’s not enough a DECENT WOMAN.

She should also listen to her husband obey his orders, bear whatever he does without any sort of complains or regrets.

Just sit quietly and listen to him and even allow him to do whatever he wants to do. Because “Pati parmeshwar hota hain” your husband is your GOD and no one argues with GOD.

I am not saying being a housewife is a bad thing. Instead, it’s a really good and appreciable thing. I mean it takes a lot to manage a house. But that doesn’t mean a housewife should bear the ill-treatment given by her husband.

Every woman needs to stand up against any kind of abuse towards her. It doesn’t matter if the one misbehaving with you is your husband. Because even if he is your husband it doesn’t give him a right to tarnish your self-respect.

Your self-respect is that one thing that you have that no one has a right to destroy until you let them destroy it.

So rather than sitting in a corner and crying over your fate just stand up against domestic violence, verbal abuse, marital rape.

Just raise your voice and show the world that you are not born to just suffer things quietly. You have a voice and you know exactly how to use it.

Remember no one can change the conditions of your life, If you don’t decide to take the first step.

If every woman would just for once stop trying to act like the DECENT WOMAN of the society and for once would start behaving like herself then she would really be able to learn her actual worth her actual importance.

But that was the plight of the married ones, what about the normal ones. The stereotype depiction actually haunts there too. What do the activists call it nowadays yes-SEXISM—The way of discriminating and judging anyone’s ability on the basis of their gender, So where does sexism starts? It actually starts at the mere beginning of the childhood.

For the society a CHILD IS NOT A CHILD it’s either a GIRL or a BOY.

You know what the society somewhat believes that the child gets those stereotypical girly or boyish characters on his or her own.

duh society
The image is self-explanatory and it is something that should be done

But the actual fact is that the people around the child make him/her acquire those stereotypical characters. For e.g.- if you are a girl your favourite toy tends to be a Barbie doll. Your favourite games are “kitchen-kitchen or Ghar-ghar”. You are “on your own ” interested in cooking food and most important you are meant to be QUIET, SHY, DECENT, INTROVERT, SOFT SPOKEN, WELL BEHAVED, WELL DRESSED, Etc.
society
If you are a guy your favorite toys are motor trucks or cars. Your favorite game is cricket or football or video games. You are meant to be violent extrovert a bit ill-tolerant.

These stereotypes just keep on increasing in the whole growing phase. Girls are said to behave properly. I mean we are even asked to even cross our legs and sit.No matter whatever we are wearing.

One of the most ridiculous things that pisses me off is society’s ignorance and disgust towards MENSTRUATION.

I mean according to 2014 census 48.16% of India’s population are women. In her lifetime every women goes through MENSTRUATION PROCESS we go through it every month.

But still why can’t girls talk about menstruation openly in our society. Why the hell do the shop venders have to wrap up the SANITARY NAPKINS with a NEWSPAPER AND THE BLACK PLASTIC BAGS. As if it’s not a sanitary napkin it’s some kind of “NUCLEAR WEAPON” that he is selling.
taboo society
I mean why can’t we be open about it if every women goes through it and every men knows about it then what’s the point about hiding it?

Apart from behaving in a particular manner we are even asked to dress decently.

That is to dress in a way that is not provocative to some perverts present in the society.

To dress in a way that doesn’t seem to be inviting. To dress in a way that can reduce the chances of you getting raped.

I want to genuinely ask it WHAT IS EXACTALY THAT PARTICULAR WAY? WHAT EXACTLY ARE DECENT CLOTHES??. Are SAREE and SALWAR SUITS decent clothes.

I don’t think so because I have seen women in saree and salwar suits getting eve teased. Even everyone must have heard those bollywood songs “laal dupate wali tera naam to bata” followed by a cheap whistle coming out from the mouth of some lecherous pervert in some public areas..and that’s quite common.

rape society
Above that even women wearing saree or salwar suits getting raped. So to sum up these clothes don’t qualify the society’s criteria of decent. Moving on what about JEANS, SKIRTS, DRESSES?.

Well I don’t think so because they have been labeled PROVOCATIVE by the society way before. What about BURQUA?I mean that covers the whole body except eyes.  But the point over here is that even girls in burqua get rapped.

So what actually is the society’s DECENT CLOTH. That covers the whole body, and even prevents a girl from getting raped.

society

Whatever it is the only one who has to compromise and change are women.

The society cannot change it’s RIDICULOUS STEROTYPES AND CANNOT BRODEN IT’S MENTALLITY A BIT.

The society needs to understand that no matter what a girl wears, how she behaves, how many guy friends she has, how late she works, how she talks, how much of an extrovert she is , how much frank she is, she NEVER EVER WANTS TO GET EVE TEASED, FOLLOWED, INSULTED OR BADLY POPULARISED, SEXUALLY ABUSED OR RAPED, A GIRL NEVER WANTS THAT.

It’s only the CHEAP MENTALLITY of those perverts and rapist that should be blamed for such heinous crimes.

understand
The society needs to stop labeling girls with the tags like “BADCHALAN” only because a girl doesn’t follows the society’ stereotypes.  Instead listens to her voice it doesn’t makes her a SLUT or a WHORE.  It doesn’t means that she invites any kind of abuse towards her.

There is an urgent need for the society to change its stereotypes that define people So that every WOMAN and even every MAN becomes FREE.

Hence, Rather than trying to behave according to the society everyone would be able to LISTEN TO THEIR VOICE.

Therefore, he or she would be FREE from any kind of SEXISM. Yes mind you, guys too face sexism not upto that extent as much as girls face it. BUT THEY FACE IT TOO.

They are also asked to behave in a certain stereotypical BOYISH manner. Even if sometimes they don’t want to but still they have to do it.

Not only this they are forced to be interested in sports, fighting etc.

society
They are not considered manly enough if they cook, if they do household chores, if they manage kids, if they CRY, if they SHOW HOW THEY FEEL, if they are not capable of fighting.

The men in the society also have a certain criteria to live by they also face sexism, WHICH IS DEFINITELY NOT GOOD.

So rather than setting up restrictions for people society should just let everyone BE FREE. Everyone in the society should PROTECT EACH OTHER RATHER THAN JUDGING EACH OTHER.

Because now it’s high time and now the society needs to BROADEN UP IT’S MIND.

Change IT’S MENTALITY A BIT.

t needs to OPEN UP TO EVERYTHING

It needs to UNDERSTAND EVERYONE’S PERSPECTIVE and rather than BLAMING, JUDGING or HUMILIATING EACH OTHER.

It needs to UNDERSTAND, TO TEACH everyone to RESPECT EVERYONE because SEXISM IS A DISEASE BY THE SOCIETY, FOR THE SOCIETY, OF THE SOCIETY.

FOR A PROGRESSIVE FUTURE WE NEED TO START WORKING TOWARDS ERADICATING IT NOW.
