Judicial Reforms: Need to change
The current load on the judiciary cannot be highlighted any more than by the fact that our former chief justice T. S. Thakur couldn’t control his emotions when he was talking about the burden on the judiciary.
While addressing a gathering at the Annual Chief Ministers and Chief Justices Conference of which our PM too was a part. In the last decade two of law commissions’ report have been solely focused on the judiciary; report no. 230 which came in 2009 and report no. 245 of 2014 emphasizing the need to make immediate changes in the existing judicial setup.
The notion that filling up of vacancies or appointment of more judges is the panacea for all ills of the judiciary is wrong. Changes in judiciary need to happen at the ground level gradually by identifying key areas that are dragging it down.
